In a year that has seen many stars of music and screen pass away, A legend has been added to the list. Dennis Hopper, who had been suffering from prostate cancer, passed away today in his home at age 74. According to IMDB.com Hopper had acted in over 200 movies and TV shows. He was in Rebel without a Cause and Giant along side screen legend James Dean and in 1969 starred in Easyrider along side Peter Fonda. For me, another memorable movie was Flashback (1990) with Hopper playing an old hippie being chased by an FBI agent played by Kiefer Sutherland. I enjoyed the comedic rebel, his character portrayed.
Hopper had troubles in life with drugs, alcohol, and women. Married 5 times, he just couldnt seem to find the right one or stay with them. His shortest marriage, to Michelle Phillips of the band The Mama’s and the Papa’s, lasted only days (Oct. 31, 1970 to November 8, 1970). His last marriage to Victoria Duffy was currently in divorce court and had lasted 1996. He had four children and 2 grandchildren.
Hopper was a true rebel, comedian, actor, and someone I enjoyed seeing on the big screen. While its sad to see him pass away, at least he doesnt feel the pain of illness and trouble anymore. Rest in peace Dennis.
