Selena Gomez and ‘Spring Breakers’ Slammed by ‘The View’

The ladies of The View have unabashedly slammed Selena Gomez and her costars for their promotion of their upcoming film, Spring Breakers.

According to a report from Hollywood Life, Elisabeth Hasselbeck (who apparently isn’t leaving The View) joined forces with Sherri Shepherd to diss the film and its actors–some of whom are former Disney stars.

The ladies on TheSpring Breakers - Belgium Official View are far more concerned about the film’s promotion than the film itself–at least for Tuesday, anyway. Ashley Benson appears on the cover of a recent issue of Seventeen magazine, and Hasselbeck and Shepherd find that inexcusable.

“[The editors] target 12- to 19-year-olds, so you’ve got a large population of Seventeen readers who haven’t seen the movie,” Shepherd says. “I get that people want to evolve … but when you want to evolve into a adult, you need to leave the kid stuff behind.”

Hasselbeck threw in her two cents worth as well, adding, “I haven’t seen this film, but I know they’re marketing it to a ton of teenagers,” Elisabeth added. “I don’t care if you’re twelve or fifteen. The problem is we don’t think about how erotic sex, when it comes to teens and media, affects their behavior. … We’re not asking that question enough when it comes to sex.”

First off, do you think Shepherd and Hasselbeck should slam a movie they haven’t even seen? And secondly, are they fully aware of the maturity of younger teens these days? Instead of looking at films like Spring Breakers as trash and a bad influence, perhaps their forum on The View should encourage kids to have conversations with their parents about the types of behavior that will be prevalent in the film. It’s widely known that drugs, alcohol, sex and crime fit into the story line. Why not encourage parents, too, to promote healthy conversations rather than dissing the actors who make a living in films like Spring Breakers?

Do you think Sherri Shepherd and Elisabeth Hasselbeck should point fingers at actors like Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens over such roles?
