Selena Gomez to Perform at Maryland State Fair Because Justin Bieber’s Unavailable

Selena Gomez has snagged yet another concert gig.  The Wizards of Waverly Place star has signed on to perform for the first time at the Maryland State Fair on August 26.  Tickets, which start at $42.50, will go on sale Saturday, and they’ll probably sell out in no time.  In fact, the Fair’s officials are expecting at least 12,500 fans to show up to catch the Disney princess’s performance of hits like A Year Without Rain and her recently released single, Who Says? If 12,500 tickets sounds like too precise a number to be arbitrary, that’s because it is. 12,500 is the number of fans who showed up at last year’s Fair– to see Justin Bieber.

Yes, rumor has it that the state of Maryland has booked Selena Gomez to perform at the 2011 State Fair only because they can’t get Justin Bieber.  When the teen dream  appeared there last year, 12,500 true beliebers descended on the fairgrounds to “see him toss his hair and perform.”  Alas, the Biebs is unavailable this summer, so Maryland officials are shrewdly “settling for the next best thing:  his girlfriend.”

Poor Selena Gomez.  Hopefully she has no idea that she was hired only because of her relationship with Justin.  If she knew, she’d be mortified.  Or not.   Selena has often talked about how much she cares for her fans and loves making them happy.   And fans are fans, whether they’re all hers or mixed with true beliebers.

You go, Selena.
