Shane Battier Injury Cuts Into Miami Heat Depth

A Shane Battier injury costs the Miami Heat a bit of depth for a while. Battier is dealing with a sprained ligament in his right knee, likely sidelining him for a few games. That’s bad news for Miami, especially with how well the team has been playing lately.

Battier got hurt against the Cleveland Cavaliers over the weekend, falling to the court after getting knocked down by a teammate during a play. This doesn’t sound like a long-term injury, but it is certainly one that fans will want to heal before Battier tries to take the court again.

Through 13 games this season, Battier has averaged 26.5 minutes, showing that he is providing some valuable minutes to the Heat. He is averaging 7 points per game, but his biggest weapon is the 45.8% he is shooting from three-point range.

The Miami Heat had a 10-3 record coming into Tuesday (November 27), but this Shane Battier injury is definitely cutting into the weapons that the team has. Still, a roster with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh certainly seems good enough to overcome losing a role player. What they don’t want to have is Battier missing any significant time.

Do you think that Miami will struggle against deeper teams without Battier in the lineup? Is this Heat team good enough to repeat as NBA champions?
