Singer Brandy Plots Career Comeback; Joins ‘Drop Dead Diva’

With radio classics like The Boy is Mine, Have You Ever, and I Wanna Be Down under her belt, for some, it may be easy to forget that singer Brandy’s acting career once seemed as promising as her music career.

While starring in the now-defunct sitcom Moesha may not sound as impressive to today’s generation of “gleeks,” anyone who spent their childhood in the 90s can remember a time when the then-teen star seemed to juggle her radio, television, and film hits all at once.

Both careers cooled now, the Cinderella actress looks to return to her TV roots, announcing a recurring role on season three of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva.

“I am excited about it. Acting is another passion,” Tweeted the songstress to her 1.1 million eager followers.

With her role as nurse Elisa Shayne set to premiere this September on the show, though, does Brandy plan on capitalizing on the gig to bring attention to what fans and followers really want from her—new music?

Taking to Twitter to confirm that more music was in the works as well, one can only hope she won’t waste what buzz the role garners (à la Dancing With the Stars) and times her Diva début with a conveniently charming new single.

With digital chart darling Rihanna, certainly no stranger to buzz, recently calling her “the best” in a Tweet on Sunday, the R&B singer certainly has enough people in her corner patient enough to endure a nearly three-year wait on new material, harsh teases on reality TV outings, and not even the announcement of a current record label.

For now, though, we’ll take the Diva news as good news and keep both our TiVos and ears waiting patiently for more Brandy.
