What does Sprint have that Verizon and AT&T do not? Unlimited data plans to pair with its new iPhone coming in October, and that will be a game changer.
Will Sprint Drop Unlimited Data Plans After Adopting the iPhone?
There is a precedent for a carrier dropping unlimited data when it got the new iPhone. Some users may wax nostalgic when thinking about the time when Verizon had unlimited data, which of course ended at the time they adopted the new iPhone. But what is different now compared to then is that the iPhone is no longer such an in demand commodity as it has already been out for a few years. Carriers like AT&T and Verizon stopped with their unlimited data options as they anticipated that the widespread adoption of the iPhone on their networks would saturate it quickly. So tiered data plans came in quickly with AT&T adopting the iPhone, but since the newness factor of the iPhone is already gone, that is not going to be as much of a factor for Sprint. Indeed, many have said that Apple is only allowing the network to have the iPhone because the Apple iOS (which runs the iPhone) is losing market share to Android.
Positives for Buying an iPhone on the Sprint Network
- This network has always made a selling point of its stellar customer service, especially when compared to AT&T.
- Their version of the iPhone will likely have unlimited data plans. This is yet to be confirmed, but there are many Android phones already on their network which have unlimited data and the iPhone in this day and age is really just another smartphone.
- The new, cheaper $99 iPhone 4 will also be available to Sprint customers.
Negatives for Buying an iPhone on the Sprint Network
- This network has spotty network coverage, so make sure you are near one of their towers before signing up for a plan.
