Irreverent comedian Stephen Colbert can now add testifying before a House subcommittee to his extensive resume. Colbert, star of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” testified at the request of Rep. Zoe Lofrgen to speak on behalf of migrant farm workers.

On his program last night, he is seen picking corn and beans as a part of a challenge from farm workers. Needless to say, Colbert realized how difficult picking vegetables is.

On his show he deadpanned, “After working with these men and women  side by side in the unforgiving sun I have to say — and I do mean this sincerely, please don’t make me do this again. It is really, really hard.”

All the while staying in character, Colbert is sure to have made an impact on the House’s decision on immigration reform. Colbert stated, among many things: “We all know there is a long tradition of great nations importing foreign workers to do their farm work.”

“After all,” he said, “it was the ancient Israelites who built the first food pyramids. But this is America. I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican. I want it picked by an American, then sliced by a Guatemalan, and served by a Venezuelan in a spa where a Chilean gives me a Brazilian.”

Watch the video and see for yourself. Oh, yes, go to the bathroom first, because this is really funny.
