Director Steven Soderbergh is currently in discussion to possibly remake the “Man from UNCLE” TV series as a movie.  Soderbergh is the man behind the “Oceans” series of films starring Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and George Clooney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Soderbergh is in talks for the film as is writer Scott Z. Burns who wrote one of Soderbergh’s films, “The Informant” starring Matt Damon.  Apparently, Warner Bros has been working on this “Man from UNCLE” concept since back in the 90’s, so now it finally appears to be moving forward.

The original TV show aired back in the sixties during the Cold War, with one of the creators of the show Ian Fleming, author of James Bond novels.  The show focused on American and Russian members of a secret agency embarking on various adventures.

While Soderbergh is still negotiating this film, he’s got another couple big movies coming up.  One is “Haywire,” an action film starring Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor and Michael Douglas.  The other will star Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslett and many more and is called “Contagion,” which Soderbergh is currently filming.  It sounds like “Man from UNCLE” could start filming by end of 2011.

Yes, another remake, but this one seems so far in the past that it’s likely to bring in new fans interested to see it.  Fans of the original series will likely check it out to see if the updated CGI effects and action sequences can best their old time favorite.

Do you think a “Man from UNCLE” movie will be worth seeing, or does Hollywood need to stop with the constant remakes and reboots?
