Sugar cookies a tasty holiday treat

Sugar cookies are a holiday favorite and a tradition in many households. They are easy to make and they are an easy cookie to make with kids. Sugar cookies are usually rolled and cut into shapes using fun cookie cutters. You can then decorate them with frosting, icing and sprinkles. Usually they are baked until they have a crispy, tasty edge and are always a Christmas hit. The sugar cookie came to prominence around the middle of the 18th century in the Nazareth area of the state of Pennsylvania and on September 5th 2001 was named the official cookie of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Easy breezy sugar cookies:
1 cup of shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 3/4 cups flour
2-teaspoon soda
1/2-teaspoon salt
1-teaspoon vanilla

Mix all ingredients together then roll out the dough and cut into shapes. You can then sprinkle them with sugar and bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees. Let them cool on a rack then decorate at will. They make a great holiday treat. Don’t forget to leave some out for Santa!
