Sultry Evening

We sit in the soft light

of our favorite cafe

our dinner is done

but we talk through the hours

of yours, mine, ours

wanting to know

this lovely wine flows

sip by sip it goes

the flickering candlelight

imbues us its soft golden glow

wine goblets sparkle…

and your eyes…

how pleasing and wise

the sound of your voice

your laughter lilts

in my head and heart

I savor the way

you caress my fingers

with your own

what a pleasant sensation

almost tickling, but not quite,

our mood mellows

the room fades away

as if we’re alone

with each word we say

agape our gaze

suddenly silent

more than wanting

direly needing

to be naked
