Supernatural‘s second episode of its eighth season, which premieres October 3, is “What’s Up, Tiger Mommy?” That episode will be bringing Lauren Tom in as Kevin’s mother and also is going to feature Misha Collins’s return as Castiel, and the CW has released promotional photos from it.

“MRS. TRAN JOINS SAM AND DEAN ON THE ROAD — Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) talks Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) into checking in on his mother (guest star Lauren Tom). When they arrive, they see that Crowley (guest star Mark Sheppard) has surrounded her with demons so they rescue her and take her along on their quest to find the tablet. However, they soon discover Kevin wasn’t kidding when he said his mother was a strong-willed woman after she tries to take on Crowley.”
First of all, in case that very brief look at purgatory at the end of season 7 didn’t clue you in, purgatory is not a fun place to be. It’s dark, and in order to survive there, it looks like Dean’s going to be doing some very dark things, as teased in the Supernatural season 8 episode 2 photos (below). These images give a look at what’s going to be going down during those purgatory flashbacks, and this time, you’ll get to see a bloody and armed Dean looking pretty ready to torture, the vampire Benny standing nearby, and Castiel looking like he’s not really ready to do much of anything. He looks pretty lost and broken. The season 8 premiere sneak peek shows Dean telling Sam Castiel didn’t make it (“Something happened to him down there. …He just let go,” he explained, adding, “I saw enough”).
There are also some photos showing what’s coming up in the present for Sam and Dean, and that involves Kevin, his mother, and Crowley. Will this confrontation end bloody for the Trans? Kevin’s going to be reuniting with Sam and Dean in the premiere, but will he (and his mother) still be with them by the end of this episode?
