Supernatural season 8 premieres on October 3, and the third episode, “Heartache,” is the one directed by Jensen Ackles. The CW has released an episode synopsis as to what to expect from the episode airing on October 17.

SPN Season 8 Episode 3 “Heartache” Official Description

“JENSEN ACKLES DIRECTS — Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) investigate a string of unusual murders where the victims were all recipients of organs from the same donor. The killer is captured, but things become even more complicated when the brothers find their killer in a trance mumbling an ancient prayer.”

While this season is going to have a recurring theme (what else would you expect when Kevin says there could be a way of closing the gates of hell for good?), there are going to be some stand-alone episodes as well, and this sounds like one of them.

It sounds like this could be a creepy case in this Supernatural season 8 episode, and unsurprisingly, there seems to be more going on than Sam and Dean will originally think. There obviously has to be something about that organ donor since the victims all received organs from him or her, but what will Sam and Dean find out when they investigate? Is the killer a relative? Is the killer being controlled by someone—or something—else? It sounds like that could be possible considering the last sentence of the episode synopsis.

This episode is also slated to feature Liane Balaban, who plays Amelia, Sam’s new love interest on the show, whom he met during Dean’s year in purgatory. Flashbacks will reveal how they met (which he talked about at Comic-Con, press room video interview below). The big question about her is how long she’ll stick around since female characters don’t exactly have a history of lasting long on this show.
