Supernatural season 8 premieres on the CW early next month on October 3 with episode 1, “We Need To Talk About Kevin.” Fans have been waiting all summer to see what happens next as season 7 ended with Dean and Castiel in purgatory. What’s coming up when Sam and Dean are reunited?
SPN Season 8 Episode 1 “We Need To Talk About Kevin” Official Description
“SAM AND DEAN ARE REUNITED AFTER A YEAR APART — Dean (Jensen Ackles) re-emerges from Purgatory, but he isn’t alone. He heads straight for Sam (Jared Padalecki), but the reunion isn’t exactly what he thought it would be. Sam drops everything to join his brother, but leaving the life he had grown to enjoy turns out to be harder than he imagined. Dean and Sam look for Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) who has managed to escape Crowley’s (guest star Mark Sheppard) grasp, but things come to a head quickly when Kevin tells them what it is that Crowley wants.”
Previous spoilers have already revealed that Sam’s going to have a girlfriend, Amelia, played by Liane Balaban, whom he met in that time that Dean was in purgatory and Sam had left the hunting life, but how long will that last? Since he “drops everything to join his brother,” that doesn’t sound good for his relationship.
Still, it will be good to see the brothers together, and the Supernatural season 8 promo (below) that has been released shows their reunion hug (after all, come back from the dead, hell, or purgatory, and it means a Winchester hug) and teases what Kevin has to tell them. He apparently found something about how to close the gates of hell for good. Is that really possible? If it is, it’s not going to be easy.
This season is going to be introducing a new recurring vampire in Benny (Ty Olsson), the one who helps Dean get out of purgatory. He’s an intriguing character, and it’s hard not to want to learn more about him, even though he’s going to be the reason why Dean’s keeping quiet about some things that happened in purgatory. After all, it can’t be good when you owe a vampire from purgatory something. Season 8 is going to use flashbacks to show what happened both for Dean in purgatory and for Sam while he was living a life away from hunting. October 3 is almost here, and while this premiere description doesn’t offer anything that hasn’t been deduced already from what’s out, that doesn’t mean it’s not welcome.
