‘Supernatural’ Season 8 Spoilers: New Possibly Recurring ‘Intense’ Character

Supernatural returns to the CW for its eight season on October 11, on its new night, Wednesday, at 9 p.m. That’s when fans will learn just how Dean got out of purgatory and will get to see him get his brother back on the road and in the life.

SPN Season 8 Spoilers

There are going to be at least a few new characters in the upcoming season. First, there’s Benny, played by Ty Olsson, and he’s a vampire who helps Dean get out of purgatory. He’s recurring, and he’ll first be showing up in the season 8 premiere. Then there’s Amelia, played by Liane Balaban, and she’s Sam’s new girlfriend whom he spent time with while Dean was in purgatory and Sam left hunting behind. She’ll be showing up in flashbacks.

Now there’s another new character that has been cast, and this is a role that is possibly recurring. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lauren Tom will be appearing in Supernatural season 8 and playing “an ‘intense’ and ‘overbearing’ mother to one of the characters on the show” whose “introduction… is said to be dramatic.” Since this role could be recurring, could she be the mother of a character that hasn’t been introduced yet? Is Tom’s character going to be involved in the arc of the season, which will see everyone after a power source?

Tom’s character is just one question mark of many going into the eighth season. While the cast and producers did tease some of what’s coming up in season 8 at Comic-Con (check out press room video interviews here), there’s still a lot that’s unknown. What will Crowley be up to with Kevin and Meg? What will happen to Kevin? How will Dean get out of purgatory? Where did Castiel go when he left Dean in purgatory at the end of season 7? With Tom’s character’s introduction being described as “dramatic,” will she have anything to do with answering any of those questions?
