Taylor Swift Exes Inspire Her Songs

Taylor Swift can’t seem to cut a break when it comes to her love life. Her latest breakup, with Connor Kennedy, will surely inspire a new song just like past boyfriends Jake Gyllenhaal, Joe Jonas, and John Mayer reportedly have.

Here’s a breakdown of some of her exes and the songs they have inspired:

Joe Jonas: She began seeing Jonas Brothers bandmate Joe Jonas in the summer 2008, and they broke up a few months later. And ouch! Joe apparently ended things in a 27-second phone call and then began dating actress Camilla Belle. The song inspired by this heartbreak? Better Than Revenge, which states pointedly, “She took him faster than you can say sabotage.”

Taylor Lautner: Taylor met Twilight hottie Taylor Lautner on the film Valentine’s Day. They dated from August 2009 until November 2009. The song? Back to December: “The dark days when fear crept into my mind,” she sings, apparently regretting the breakup.

Lucas Till: She dated her You Belong With Me video co-star for a short time in 2009. Apparently, Lucas viewed Taylor as more of a friend than a lover. She didn’t “belong to him,” obviously.

John Mayer: Taylor Swift dated “player” John Mayer from November 2009 to February 2010. Some say that Swift lost her virginity to Mayer, but that obviously is private information known only to the two of them. Dear John is the song that was inspired by the relationship. “Cried the whole way home,” sums up the heartbreak she suffered at John’s hands.

Toby Hemingway: Yet another music video romance was born during the shoot for Taylor’s song Mine. The twosome were rumored to be a couple for a short time in 2010.

Jake Gyllenhaal: These two began dating in October 2010. The lovefest was paparazzi heaven, as the two lovers were often photographed. They broke up in late December 2011. They were spotted eating together in January 2011, but broke up for good very quickly afterwards. Jake’s song? We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. The title speaks for itself.

There have been quite a few more exes in Taylor’s love life, and her songs attest to that. Here’s hoping she finally gets her Love Story.
