Somali-American Charged For Car Bomb Plot
There was another terror threat via failed car bomb plot during an annual Christmas tree lighting on Friday. In Portland, Oregon, 19-year-old Somali-American, Mohamed Osman Mohamud, was caught trying to set off a van full of explosives during a Christmas tree lighting ceremony. He has been arrested and charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction. Extremists, such as this young man, are making it difficult to stop the rising prejudice and discrimination against Muslims and Arabs. Before the failed car bomb attempt, Muhamud, current Oregon State University student, has been in connection with an unidentified person from northwest Pakistan who is involved in terrorist activities. Since August 2009, the FBI has been conducting an undercover investigation on Mohamed Osman Mohamud, so they were already suspicious of his intentions.
Car Bomb Plot a Part of Larger Attack?
Special Agent Arthur Balizan spoke about the uncovered car bomb plot, “The threat was very real. Our investigation shows that Mohamud was absolutely committed to carrying out an attack on a very grand scale. At the same time, I want to reassure the people of this community that, at every turn, we denied him the ability to actually carry out the attack.”
The affidavit that was created stated that Mohamud sent e-mails discussing a trip to Pakistan to “prepare for a jihadâ€.
Due the holidays and festivities it garners, terror threats are heightened.  Most Americans are already stressed about how they plan to budget this holiday season. Adding the anxiety of car bomb plot or any planned terrorist attack is something that the country as a whole doesn’t need at this time. Hopefully, Mohamed Osman Mohamud’s arrest will alleviate some of the stress.
