“Teen Mom” Amber Portwood Charged With Felony….Will This Impact Baby Leah?

“Teen Mom” star Amber Portwood has been charged with a felony in the abuse case of former fiance Gary Shirley. What does this mean for Portwood’s baby Leah if she is sent to jail?

According to RadarOnline, Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley share custody of now 2-year-old Leah. If Portwood goes to jail, it is likely that Gary Shirley would be granted full custody of their daughter.

Beyond the notion of Amber Portwood going to jail is the idea that if she becomes a convicted felon, there will be a stigma attached to her for the rest of her life as a result, and such stigmas typically have quite an impact on the felon’s children. Will this create completely unnecessary problems for little Leah down the line?

Once people become parents, it is even more important for them to carefully consider their options in each and every facet of their lives. Things that seem blown up and out of control at the moment often have little to no relevance later on, but one’s reactions to these situations certainly can. Had Amber Portwood stopped to think about her actions regarding her physical abuse of Leah’s dad Gary Shirley, she might not have reacted the way she did.

Hopefully the situation with Amber Portwood won’t end with her being a convicted felon. She sounds more like a desperate young woman who needs help in the form of therapy more than she needs incarceration.
