Tennessee Pastor: School Shootings Occur Because Schools Teach Sex, Rebellion and ‘How To Be A Homo’
A Tennessee pastor at Old Paths Baptist Church told his congregation on Sunday that school shootings occur because there’s no God in school. Pastor Sam Morris begins by comparing the Connecticut massacre to abortion. Shocking. A six-year-old riddled with eleven bullets from a high-powered weapon is not even in the same sphere of reality as a medical termination of a pregnancy. Not even a late term abortion compares.
He also suggests Adam Lanza be strung up, set on fire and left hanging for birds to peck. The “good” pastor then goes on a tirade about gun control. After advocating violence be perpetrated on another.
His argument against gun control is that mass shootings happen where guns are banned. That’s a stupid argument. Alcohol is also prohibited in most, if not all state parks. People still bring beer to their picnics. Allowing alcohol won’t increase the number people drinking beer in the park, nor will it decrease.
A better point to make is that guns purchased for mass killings have been purchased legally. Doesn’t that imply there’s something wrong with the legal method of obtaining weapons?
Pro-gun people say banning assault rifles will make them available only to criminals. Adam Lanza had no criminal record. His mother had no criminal record. James Holmes had no criminal record. Holmes bought his weapons at local sporting goods stores and his ammo and tactical gear from the internet. No background checks needed to purchase 160 pounds of ammo.
In Switzerland they have strict ammo control laws. Everyone can own a weapon. Everyone can own an “assault weapon.” However, each gun owner must submit to ammo inspections. Guess how many gun-related homicides they have each year? In 2009, they had 55. The United States had 9,146 gun-related homicides in 2009. Both countries guarantee the right to own a firearm by law. In the United Kingdom where gun ownership is not guaranteed by law, they only had 18 gun-related homicides in 2009. These numbers indicate 1) guns can be owned responsibly (just not in the United States) and 2) fewer guns result in fewer homicides.
The Tennessee pastor continues his attack saying government schools are “mind control centers” that teach sex, rebellion and “how to be a homo.” He asks his parishioners if they are “morons” (implying they are if they send their kids to public school). And since when do public schools give lessons on homosexuality? No news outlets have indicated that any of the perpetrators of mass shootings have been homosexual. On the other hand, conservative preachers have been found to be homosexual. Ted Haggard.
Morris is just another ignorant person from the right blaming “the removal of God” from schools (citing the 1963 U.S. Supreme Court decision on Abington School District v. Schempp that declared Bible reading in public schools to be unconstitutional). This imbecile goes so far as to say God is punishing the schools. And he’s not the only misinformed, religious nut to say such things. Republican Mike Huckabee said on his Fox News show Saturday, “Should we be so surprised that schools have become such a place of carnage? Because we’ve made it a place where we don’t want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability.” Does he realize the shooter was home schooled? That makes his comments not only inapplicable but also completely benighted.
Speaking of ignorant, Elizabeth Hasselbeck spewed the same rhetoric today on The View when she too mentioned the “removal of God” from schools. In her defense, she’s only there to give the Republicans a voice on an otherwise intelligent panel of women.
Praying in school won’t stop the next mass killer. Eliminating automatic weapons might.
