Tennis Champion Andy Roddick & Supermodel Brooklyn Decker: A Fluke, Says Roddick (photo)

Beautiful, famous people are meant to be together, right?  Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.  Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.  Tennis champion Andy Roddick and supermodel Brooklyn Decker.  Not so easy, says Roddick.

Roddick tells Women’s Wear Daily, “I’ve been pretty lucky, especially getting Brook to say ‘yes.’  That’s been my biggest accomplishment, although basically it was a fluke.”  The 28 year old superstar, currently the number one ranked men’s tennis player in the U.S., does not take his Sports Illustrated swimsuit model wife for granted.  In fact, he shows a very modest demeanor when stressing how fortunate he is to have her as his wife.

Although the international tennis circuit keeps Roddick on the road for most of the year, the couple leads a low key life in Austin, Texas, during their down time.  “I live a pretty boring existence when I’m away from my job. I play golf and we have a boat, so we go out on that,” says Roddick.  He and Decker also spend significant time working on their charitable foundation, for which they have raised almost $15 million to benefit at-risk youth.

It is refreshing to see two “beautiful, famous people” happily married and holding such noble ambitions.  As Mr. Roddick discovered this past week at the U.S. Open, superstardom in sports and modeling can be fleeting, so it is good to have a solid foundation upon which to fall back.  Tennis champion Andy Roddick and supermodel Brooklyn Decker together appear to have just that.
