The A Team singer Ed Sheeran tells prospective musicians to skip college. He is a strong advocate of musicians shadowing those in similar fields instead.

According to a report from the Huffington Post, Ed tells people he knows who want to become musicians to look for opportunities within the music industry.

Ed Sheeran“If you want to be a producer, then shadow a producer, start making him tea,” Sheeran says. “Ask how you do this, how’d you do that.”

He offers even more advice for those who want to be singers.

“If you want to be a singer, then make sure you go to a lot of shows of people you really, really admire, study how they do it,” said Sheeran. “Do your own shows, work up your confidence, write as many songs as possible so each time you do a song, it gets better and better and better.”

Did the messy-haired redhead take his own advice? No. That’s likely how he came up with the wisdom to proffer it, however. Ed went to music school for college and hated wasting his time studying things he probably would have learned on his own.

Something has clearly worked out for the exceptional lyricist with the voice of an angel. He not only has an album that’s topped a million sales, he has also written songs for Taylor Swift and One Direction.

Are you an Ed Sheeran fan? Would you heed or pass along his advice for prospective musicians?
