It’s a highly anticipated superhero flick hitting theaters next year. You’ve seen a lot of pictures and videos that have leaked from the set. And it’s filming some scenes in the Midwest. Here’s the twist: The film in question isn’t “The Dark Knight Rises.” It’s not even a DC property.
It’s the blockbuster that’ll up all those post-credit storylines from”Iron Man”, “The Incredible Hulk,” “Thor” and “Captain America.” It’s “The Avengers” movie from Marvel. And it’s finally throwing off some video and pictures from the Cleveland, Ohio film set. ?”The Avengers” isn’t getting the same scrutiny as “The Dark Knight Rises”, but it looks like director Joss Whedon is capturing the spirit of the Marvel comic.
In recent videos you can see Captain America and Thor fighting off hordes of what seem to be Asgardian(?) warriors. That would seem to tie in with Loki’s appearance in the film (in the comics, the superhero group initially banded together to fight a threat from the god of mischief). Another video shows Thor smashing a car with his hammer Mjolnir.
One impressive video displays more than a half-dozen cars blowing up as several unidentified characters flee (with good reason). In the videos you can hear a voice counting down the action and shouting “cut”. Judging from the overhead angle, a crew member or an extra positioned on the roof of a nearby building shot the footage.
While “The Avengers” and “The Dark Knight Rises” are both hot superhero sagas, here’s one big difference: “TDKR” features one marquee name superhero: Batman. But with “The Avengers” you get FOUR marquee name superheroes (Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Captain America) plus Nick Fury, Hawkeye and other Marvel characters — all for the price of ONE movie ticket. Now how much would you pay? The Marvel Studios production opens May 4, 2012.
