The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon Becomes a Cat Lady

While Mayim Bialik was noticeably absent in episode two The Cruciferous Vegetable Amplifcation, she returned full force in episode three of “The Big Bang Theory,” The Zazzy Substitution. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik) are no longer planning on creating a child, but they are getting on each other’s nerves. But maybe that’s just because they’re the same person.

In the beginning of The Zazzy Substitution, Sheldon and Amy are playing a game of counter-factuals that Leonard (Johnny Galecki) isn’t very good at. They almost re-live the Jenga tantrum of 2008. Things continue to go downhill when Amy goes to the Cheesecake Factory with “The Big Bang Theory” gang.

When Penny (Kaley Cuoco) goes to serve them, she calls the couple Shamy again. Or as Amy says, “a juvenile amalgamation of our names.” The gang doesn’t like Amy. Leonard even tells Sheldon that she’s “not a good fit with the rebel alliance.”

Sheldon won’t have any of it though – until Amy says her paradigm is better than Sheldon’s theoretical physics. With Sheldon’s work put down, things get nasty between the two until Amy says, “I move our relationship be terminated immediately.”

Sheldon claims he’s fine with this when he says “Can’t live with them, can’t successfully refute their hypotheses.” But he starts getting cats and naming them names like Dr. Robert Oppenheimer. When the collection of cats gets too unwieldy, Leonard calls in reinforcements, Mrs. Cooper played by Laurie Metcalf.

As always, Sheldon’s mom knows how to help. She invites Amy Farrah Fowler over and tells Sheldon that it’s clear they’re not suited for each other. That’s all Sheldon needs to hear. They propose their relationship resume.

In the final seconds of “The Big Bang Theory,” Mayim helps Sheldon give away his cats, along with $20, to whoever wants a cat and money.

In the next episode, The Hot Troll Deviation, the story line turns to Wolowitz, who is jealous of Sheldon’s burgeoning relationship with Amy and tries to get back with Bernadette.
