‘The Killing’ Season 3: Holder Without Linden?

The Killing season 2 ended in a way that seemed very much like a series finale, and it has yet to be picked up for a third season. They did leave a couple of threads hanging, but it was pretty much wrapped up. What could a season 3 look like?

Season 3: What Would It Be Like?

I feel like Linden and Holder [are] just [getting] started.” However, he also went on to say “the series has to reboot itself,” making it “like the first season [of a show], where it [would] be original material and not based on the Danish [series] anymore.” They did very briefly mention a new case at the end of season 2, but if there is a season 3, will that be the mystery or will they open up with a new one? Will time have passed between seasons?

The Killing season 2 finale ended with Linden walking away from Holder after he got the call about the body, but he doesn’t think that she’s gone for good: “I imagine that there would be a new case, and that Linden’s obsessive nature is not going to keep her away from police work for too long.” It would be hard to imagine the show without Linden or Holder, so hopefully if there is a third season, both are back. Otherwise, it might as well end with “What I Know.”

The AMC drama didn’t get the best ratings or reviews for its second season, especially after the disappointing ending to the first. If there is another season, hopefully they learn from their mistakes. Having Linden and Holder stick around would be the right move, but after its past, will people tune back in for a new case? Since viewers have learned who killed Rosie Larsen, they may decide that they’re done with the series and getting into another murder isn’t worth it, especially with how the first one turned out and how long it stretched out.
