YouTube has created another internet sensation. This time, it’s Ted Williams, “The Man with Golden Voice”. The soon-to-be former homeless man has been panhandling roadside in Columbus, Ohio. A reporter happened to make a video of Williams, as he placed his voice on display. Seemingly overnight, his YouTube video received three million views. “The Man with Golden Voice” has gone from dilapidation to promising success in a matter of days. So, what does his family think about his sudden fame?
Fortunately, “The Early Show” caught up with Julia Williams, mother of Ted Williams, for an exclusive interview about her son’s fame. “I’m very proud of him,” she told co-anchor of “The Early Show” Chris Wragge, “I hope he can do good.” During his interview on Wednesday, Ted Williams began to get emotional when speaking on his mother:
“My mom is just really… I… IÂ… I’m going to be going to New York, hopefully this afternoon, and pleaseÂ… I apologize if I am getting a little emotional. I haven’t seen my mom in, in great deal of timeÂ… But she doesn’t believe (my good fortune now)Â… One of my, one of my, my biggest prayers that IÂ… sent out was that she would live long enough for me to, you know, rebound or whatever. And I guess God kept her around, and he kept my pipes around, you know, to, to maybe just have one more shot…”
He was scheduled to have a reunion with his mother at LaGuardia Airport but “The Golden Voice” was swept away by reporters, prolonging the emotional get-together. Since his battle with drugs and alcohol, which led him to being homeless, his mother stated that she prayed that he would be okay. Her prayers were answered: “God has answered my prayer. I prayed that I would live to see this time when he would do well.”
This is truly a heart-warming story. Due to his superb radio voice, the Cleveland Cavaliers offered Williams a house and a job. Other careers are lined up for him as well. Hopefully, “The Man with Golden Voice” will pay this forward and bless those who are in his situation as well. In the meantime, here’s another American dream came true.
