This week on The Next, the semi-finals are finally here as the six finalists, and one fan favorite that will come back, will battle it out for a recording contract with Atlantic Records. The mentors have been to six different cities to surprise the musicians. They gave them a hand by getting into their lives, but more importantly, they helped them overcome their fears that may be holding them back.

First off was Krystle Cruz who sang Born This Way by Lady Gaga. Nelly wasn’t thrilled with the song choice. John agreed that it didn’t allow her to do what she does best, but he called it solid. Joe loved her dress but said it was not her best performance.

Ali Brustofski sang Breakeven by the Script. Gloria loved it and said that she has a recognizable voice. Joe was blown away, and Nelly also loved it. John Rich wants an artist, not just a singer, to win this competition, and he told Ali that she is an artist.

Jordan Baird sang This Love by Maroon 5. Joe is proud of him; Gloria loves his baby blues and especially loved him taking his jacket off. John loved the showmanship, but he told him that the melody was too loose.

Ashley Kimbrae came out to sing Wide Awake by Katy Perry. Nelly loved it; John said she is one of his favorites; and Joe thought the song was perfect for her. Gloria had nothing but praise for her, too.

Iliana sang King of Anything by Sara Bareilles. Gloria said this was the best she has heard her sing; John also liked it; Joe liked her attitude; and Nelly thought she killed it.

Michael Ray sang Drunk on You by Luke Bryan. John loved it and called him intense. He also said that he is the man to beat. Gloria said that she was getting hotter just watching him; Nelly said he is a fan of his, while Joe called him a superstar.

Cori Yarckin is the fan favorite that was voted back in to the competition. She sang I Want U Back by Cher Lloyd. Nelly liked her animation on the stage. John joked around about the “crazy girlfriend” theme of the song and told Joe Jonas that he may know more about the crazy girlfriend thing than anyone. Joe might have blushed a little. Overall, the mentors liked her performance.

The Next will be back for another live show on next Tuesday on the CW.
