On Tuesday, January 25, the Academy Award nominations will be announced. The buzz is that ‘The Social Network’ will be nominated and may actually win Best Picture.
If the Golden Globes are a precursor to the Academy Awards, and they many times are, ‘The Social Network’ will definitely be in the running for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. These categories all won at the Golden Globes. The film was also nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor.
‘The Social Network’ is a fast paced story of the birthing and success of Facebook, the largest social network site. ItÂ’s a story of power, ambition, and betrayal.
Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is the brilliant computer science Harvard student that takes an idea presented to him by fellow Harvard student twins and turns it into a mutli-billion dollar company. The twins sue and claim that Zuckerberg stole their idea. Zuckerberg claims their idea had flaws and that he never used their coding.
Twists and turns continue throughout the movie faster than an electromagnetic rollercoaster.
Aaron Sorkin, the writer of ‘The Social Network,’ did his usual outstanding job on pulling together this true story of corporate strategy. No wonder he has won multiple awards for this screenplay.
This movie should be on your ‘must see’ list.
