Are you ready for “The Talk” on CBS? The series premieres today on the network in the old time slot owned by canceled soap opera “As The World Turns.” That series met its end last month, and “The Talk” was announced as its replacement over the summer.

LOS ANGELES - JUL 28: Leah Remini, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen, Holly Robinson Peete, & Sharon Osbourne - The Talk Cast arrives at the 2010 CBS, The CW, Showtime Summer Press Tour Party at The Tent Adjacent to Beverly Hilton Hotel on July28, 2010 in Beverly Hills, CA ... Six celebrity moms tackle the news of the day with Sara Gilbert leading them all. The other five mothers on this talk show are: Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete and Marissa Jaret Winokur. However, the celebrity moms on this show plan to stay away from any and all politics. You won’t see any of them walk off like happened on The View last week.

Brad Bessey, executive producer of the series, said the following about the show, according to USA Today: “Every day they will be talking about the biggest news out there, but for this group of women, it might be being stuck in the carpool lane at school. We are not scouring the headlines, ‘Oh, how do we produce a show to deal with these issues?’ … We’re looking at the world around us, but through the eyes of the hosts.”

The series has been compared to “The View” on ABC, but Sara Gilbert has said that the series is very different than that talk show. The series was born out of a mom’s group Gilbert attended herself after the addition of a second baby into the family. According to The Houston Chronicle, the actress said the following: “I was feeling overwhelmed,” she said. “Was I giving the baby enough? Was I giving my son enough attention? … I started going to this mom group, and I thought, ‘Wow, people need this kind of support. … What if there were a show where a bunch of women sat together and talked about the world through that perspective?”

The group of women plan to sit around a table talking about the issues of their day or what interests them. They are all mothers with children of various ages, and they plan to share that experience with those that watch. Guests for the first week include Jennifer Lopez and Christie Brinkley.
