On tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries on The CW, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) leaves Mystic Falls after fighting with Elena (Nina Dobrev) with an unlikely companion…Katherine. Katherine has kidnapped Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) because she knows that he can see Anna’s ghost. Katherine says that Anna knows of a way to kill Klaus (Joseph Morgan). Anna’s ghost tells Jeremy that the only person who can kill Klaus is a dead vampire named Michael. Katherine takes Damon’s phone so he doesn’t know about what’s happening in Mystic Falls.

Meanwhile, Klaus and his sister Rebecca (Claire Holt) have come back to Mystic Falls with Stefan (Paul Wesley) because he found out that Elena is still alive. Klaus tries to use Bonnie (Kat Graham) to do the magic to fix the problem with the hybrids and turns Tyler (Michael Trevino) into a hybrid in the process.

Klaus finds out that Elena’s blood is the key to the successful transformation of the hybrids. Klaus makes Tyler drink Elena’s blood and Tyler survives.

Klaus drains Elena’s blood and when Damon gets his phone back and finds out what’s going on, he returns to Mystic Falls to rescue Elena. It is revealed that the necklace that Stefan gave to Elena used to belong to Rebecca and she is less than pleased when she finds out that Elena has it. Or at least she used to until Katherine took it.

Klaus compels Stefan to kill more humans and compels him to drink Elena’s blood and to turn off all his emotions, including his love for Elena. Stefan has gone completely dark-side at this point and who knows if he’ll ever find his way back? The dynamic between Damon and Elena is getting even more interesting because she is starting to realize her feelings for him.

At the end of the episode, she is angry with him for leaving. He apologizes and gives her the necklace back. But she doesn’t seem to want it because she knows that Stefan has gone dark. Klaus left Mystic Falls but compels Stefan to spy on Elena while he is gone.

Matt (Zach Roerig) senses his sister Vickie’s presence and wants to communicate with her so he asks Bonnie to help bring him back to life after he drowns himself in the school swimming pool so that he has a chance to see Vickie. Bonnie arrives just in time to save Matt and he tells her that his sister had a message for Bonnie. It was interesting to see Bonnie and Matt’s friendship get stronger after she saved his life.

It was good that Matt finally got to say goodbye to Vickie. Jeremy and Katherine go to the tomb where Michael is buried.

This episode of The Vampire Diaries was full of twists and turns. The idea of the new character Michael is intriguing, but only time will tell if he actually has the power to kill Klaus.

Tune in next Thursday at 8 p.m./7c to find out what’s next for everyone in Mystic Falls.
