After the events of The Vampire Diaries season 3 finale, Elena’s transitioning and Klaus is in Tyler’s body. Both of those storylines have to be addressed when the series returns in October.
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers
Candice Accola talked to Zap2it about what could be coming up next season. With Elena transitioning, of course everyone’s wondering how she’ll approach that and what they could be seeing in the premiere. While details about what’s actually going to happen in season 4 are scarce, the cast has been talking about what they’d like to see happen, and Accola said, “Elena handles everything so well… It’s going to be interesting to see how Elena handles this, because you assume that it’s going to be so wonderfully and beautifully and with grace, but then you also assume that no, everyone’s going to make sure and take care of her and keep it all together.”
Elena will certainly have people around her to help, and each will be offering a different perspective on what she’s about to go through. While the series has shown someone deciding not to go through with the transition, obviously that’s not going to happen here, so all that’s left to see is what happens during that and after. Which of her friends will end up being the most helpful during this process? Since Caroline did go through it herself recently—and faced what happened when her birthday came around and she knew she wouldn’t be getting older—she could be the perfect person for Elena to talk to about that.
There’s also the matter of Klaus in Tyler’s body in The Vampire Diaries season 4. When asked if there was a chance for Caroline and Klaus next season, Accola said, “I don’t know. Caroline has really not liked Klaus, but I love those scenes of them together. I think it’s such an interesting dynamic.” While she’s looking forward to seeing what happens next between them, that doesn’t mean that Caroline likes Klaus and describes her character as “intrigued” when it comes to the Original. The scenes between those two were so good this season and easily among the best, but what does make them so good is that you knew they wouldn’t end with them together. That didn’t mean fans didn’t want more of them, starting after the one that started it all, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s hard not to look forward to seeing Klaus around again—in his own body—and Tyler back in control of his own body.
While it was enjoyable to see Michael Trevino playing Klaus, which Accola did talk about in this interview and it is going to be interesting to see what happens when season 4 begins concerning that and Caroline, you also have to hope to see Joseph Morgan back as Klaus at some point in the first half of season 4. That’s not just because he’s so good in the role. There’s also the matter of Caroline and Tyler’s relationship, which they’ll hopefully have the chance to have once again at some point. That can’t really be addressed until Klaus is Klaus again and not Klaus in Tyler’s body.
