The Vampire Diaries season 3 ended with Alaric dead and Meredith likely not on everyone’s favorites list after she gave Elena vampire blood without anyone knowing it. She didn’t have a choice and saved her, but that did lead to Elena transitioning when she drowned. What’s going to come next for her?

Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers

According to TVLine, executive producer Julie Plec has said, “Meredith in the beginning is just trying to keep her head above water, realizing that she’s found herself dropped into this supernatural world she never really meant to get involved with. She has a choice to make: Does she want to dive in head first and embrace it? Or does she want to pull back and say, ‘Hey you know what? Why don’t you guys leave me out of it.’ We’ll be seeing a little bit of her in the beginning of the season.” So Meredith’s going to have a choice to make.

Could Meredith decide to leave Mystic Falls behind in the beginning of The Vampire Diaries season 4? It certainly sounds that way since Plec says there will be “a little bit of her in the beginning,” though if she does decide to leave, she could show up again later on in the season. She could decide to leave just for her safety; she’s been around this group long enough that she sees how dangerous it is. However, if she stays, she and Damon could get some bonding in since they both lost Alaric. That could still happen even if she decides to leave for a bit, giving the series something else to explore in the fourth season. Though there was some uncertainty surrounding Meredith at first, she has proven to be useful. Could that be true again in the early episodes of the season even as she’s figuring out what she wants to do?
