The Vampire Diaries season 3 may have ended with Elena transitioning, but it also ended with Elena making her choice—and choosing Stefan over Damon. So what could that mean for Damon in season 4?
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Damon
Ian Somerhalder talked to Zap2it about the end of season 3 and what he hopes it means for his character in the fourth season. He called her choice “a good challenge.” The love triangle could never officially be over—especially now that she’s transitioning and that means there’s going to be a lot more time to explore those relationships. While it was getting a bit tiring to watch it play out over the years, Elena becoming a vampire adds a whole new element to it, which could be refreshing for the series.
Somerhalder also talked about what he’s hoping to see in The Vampire Diaries season 4 for Damon: “Here’s the good thing: he’s not pining for her, he’s not pining for Katherine, so maybe we’ll get some of that Season 1 Damon back.” Now that would be something fun to see, especially with Elena adjusting to being a vampire, not even in terms of the love triangle. Elena’s going to need some guidance as she transitions, and it seems like she could have some very different viewpoints from all the vampires she knows. How will that influence how she ends up handling being a vampire?
Seeing Damon go back to being the season 1 Damon could mean some fun storylines just for him alone, not even taking into consideration Elena. It could also mean some more good Salvatore brothers’ stuff. The scenes with Stefan and Damon are always so good, and that’s likely to continue in season 4, whether they’re arguing or agreeing, or if Damon’s back to being his season 1 self or not.
