The Vampire Diaries season 4 premieres on the CW on October 11 with “Growing Pains,” which will see everyone adjusting to Elena becoming a vampire after she drowned with vampire blood in her when she made Stefan save Matt first. So what now? What’s next for Matt?
Vampire Diaries Season 4 Spoilers
“Growing Pains” promotional photos have already been released, showing that Elena’s going to have a tough time with her transition, and while Matt’s not in them, he’s certainly someone who will be most affected by what’s happened since this happened because Stefan saved him first. Ian Somerhalder has previewed that “a tough year” is ahead for Matt, so will he survive it? Zach Roerig hopes so, as seen in the latest video released by the CW to get fans ready for The Vampire Diaries season 4.
The video interview (below) features clips from the season 3 finale and Roerig giving some behind-the-scenes information about filming the underwater scene. He teases, “I think this season will probably be the most different of all three, mainly because Elena’s a vampire now. I don’t know what that means for me though, I’m still human, which I—I want to stay human, because Matt does have a very, very strong weapon, and that is a moral compass. Matt is the only character that truly lives by a moral compass. A lot of times certain characters have to stop and think about the right thing to do. Matt’s reaction is constantly and inherently what he believes is the right thing to do.”
Hopefully Matt does stay human and survives to graduation. With the new threat coming to town, he could suffer, whether it’s for being human or for hanging out with vampires. He is fortunate to have vampires around who will protect him—especially Elena with her emotions heightened now that she’s a vampire—but anything could happen. One of the best things about the show so far is that they’ve kept Matt human, but how many times can he cheat death? Hopefully his luck doesn’t run out in season 4.
