Being a vampire doesn’t suck. At least not for the cast of The CW series The Vampire Diaries. The television series is about to begin its third season (it premieres September 15th at 8pm/7c) and has legions of fans.

If you need further proof, just consider the fact that the show won three times at last night’s Teen Choice Awards. Unlike most award shows, the Teen Choice Awards winners are determined by fan votes, which explains why TVD, won so awards. And it probably didn’t hurt that the television show category was split into science fiction/fantasy and drama categories. The CW also won best television drama thanks to Gossip Girl.

But the science fiction/fantasy television category had some tough competition from other popular hit CW shows like Supernatural and Smallville.

Some TVD cast members also walked away with awards. Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev were recognized for their performances as Damon Salvatore and Nina Gilbert as Best Actor and Actress in the science fiction fantasy television category respectively.

Fellow TVD cast member Paul Wesley, who plays Damon’s brother Stefan Salvatore was also nominated but the victory went to Somerhalder (and rightfully so). Damon is a much more interesting character both in The Vampire Diaries television series and in the book series of the same name by author L.J. Smith.

The cast of The Vampire Diaries will also be featured on the cover of an upcoming of Rolling Stone magazine according to Twitter. And Nina Dobrev recently finished filming The Perks of Being A Wallflower (in theaters this fall). The film, which is based on Stephen Chbosky’s book also stars Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson.

And with the new season coming up, fans can catch up on any missed episodes, or just relive their favorites because the second season will be released on DVD shortly before the new season begins.

But of course The Vampire Diaries wasn’t the only big winner last night. You can find a recap of all the Teen Choice Award winners here
