The Walking Dead season 3 is airing its midseason finale this Sunday, and “Made to Suffer” is finally going to see the two groups crossing paths—though possibly not all the “reunions” that you’re hoping for before the break. But remember, these “reunions” may not be happy ones.
Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 8 “Made to Suffer” Spoilers
The Hollywood Reporter talked to showrunner Glen Mazzara about what to expect as Rick’s group prepares to enter Woodbury to rescue the captured Glenn and Maggie—who need that help very badly, given what the promo has revealed. Unfortunately regarding a run-in between Rick and the Governor, Mazzara said “not yet,” but he did say “oh definitely” when it comes to Michonne and the Governor. Although it’s hard not to be excited to see what happens when the two leaders meet, you have to be looking for what happens when the Governor realizes Merle lied to him about Michonne—especially since, as the sneak peek from Talking Dead revealed, she finds Penny. Will he find her as she’s about to kill—or has already killed—Penny? One of the previews out does show Michonne fighting for her life, and while it doesn’t show who’s holding her down too well, it does look like it’s the Governor, which makes sense.
Mazzara didn’t reveal anything regarding the Dixon brothers’ reunion that has to be coming at some point this season, but they are so close. Given everything else happening in the Walking Dead season 3 midseason finale, there are some things that are going to have to wait—and that reunion may be one of them. Speaking of reunions, Andrea has been separated from the group since the end of last season after she was left behind at the farm and she had to fight by herself to stay alive. She started off the season with Michonne, but the two didn’t see eye to eye when it came to the Governor and Woodbury, and while Michonne left, she stayed—and fell into bed with the dark, charismatic leader. But how long can that last? Mazzara revealed, “The veil is lifted,” but where will the midseason finale leave her with Rick’s group coming into the town and the tease from the showrunner that “there have to be some deaths” in regards to Rick’s group and the Governor’s.
There are some characters that will obviously not die, but there are others who could certainly be seeing their last episode in “Made to Suffer,” such as Oscar with the Woodbury group. After all, it would be very shocking if they killed off Daryl or Michonne and Rick’s clearly safe, but if someone does end up dying from Rick’s group heading into Woodbury, Oscar seems like a likely choice. But could they lose Oscar and regain Andrea as a member of their group? Meanwhile, in the prison, the previews have teased that they’re going to be in trouble as well—and Carl’s going to be doing what he can to protect them. But will Rick and whoever’s left return to find that they’ve suffered more losses to their group while they were gone?
