Henry Winkler in Awe of Tom Bosley
According to People Magazine, Henry Winkler was in awe of Tom Bosley’s attitude and energy.
“He had that wonderful, sprite-like energy of his,” Winkler says. “It was apparent on the phone when I spoke to him three weeks ago, it was apparent when we saw each other a year ago, it was apparent when we saw each other before that.”
Of a recent conversation with Bosley following several rounds of cancer treatments, Winkler said the following.
“He had just gone through several bouts of chemo, and you always heard him in a positive, forward attitude. He was always looking forward, you know. At 83, I hope that’s me.”
Tom Bosley Quite Similar to Howard Cunningham
Henry Winkler told of how Tom Bosley was very similar in nature to the character he played on “Happy Days.” He said he was also a “positive role model on the set and through the last days of his life, and was always there to offer fatherly advice to the cast.”
Henry Winkler played the role of Arthur Fonzarelli, a.k.a. “The Fonz” on “Happy Days.” He often went to the Cunningham’s for advice and inspiration, in the same way he went to Bosley in real life.
Tom Bosley died of lung cancer at his home in Palm Springs on Tuesday October 19. He was 83 years old.
As Henry Winkler remembers Tom Bosley, so does most of America. His character of Howard Cunningham is legendary and won’t soon be forgotten.
