The phone lines are open, American Idol fans.  Tonight, the top ten female contestants performed live on the show, looking to be voted as one of the Top Ten female performers to go on to next week’s show.

Tonight’s show featured a brief interview with each performer, talking about their auditions and hopes, showing their photo shoots, and how they each feel at this point in the competition.

The judges discussed their thoughts and feelings of each performance with the girls after each one’s song was over.  The typical reactions of what was good and bad of each performance, and where improvements could be made were given.  It was obvious watching and listening whose performances the judges liked and disliked, as always.

The addition of Ellen DeGeneres to the judges’ panel this year is refreshing.  There’s no more of that high school rivalry feeling we used to get from watching Paula and Simon flirt and fight with each other.  Ellen’s personality fits in perfectly with the others’, and together, the four judges are able to give the performers an accurate, true-to-heart opinion about their performances.  And we still get to enjoy Simon’s brutal honesty of the performances.

Tonight’s performances included a good mix of music from artists like Heart, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Alicia Keys, Chris Isaak, and Alanis Morissette.  There were questions about some of the song choices by the judges, which Ryan Seacrest addressed with the performers who were asked why they chose a particular artist or song.  These are more tips that those performers who make it to the Top Ten can use in their future performances.

The results from tonight’s’ show will be revealed live on Thursday night at 8pm/7c on Fox, along with the results of the men’s performances, which will air live tomorrow night at 8pm/7c on Fox.  Two of the men and two of the women will be eliminated on Thursday’s results show.  Who will you be voting for?
