Bust is simply the best women’s magazine on the market. Not only is it fun and interesting, but it’ll never insult your intelligence by pretending all you care about is eyeliner and shoes. It’s like Ms. Magazine’s younger, hipper child.
All the more reason to pick up the August/September 2010 issue of Bust: pages 11-12, Emily McCombs’ interview with Rutina Wesley. Wesley plays Sookie Stackhouse’s best friend Tara Thornton on HBO’s True Blood.
With all the attention on the Rolling Stone cover featuring Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgaard, Wesley’s Bust interview has been overshadowed. It shouldn’t be. Hard as it is to imagine, given that Tara and Eggs spent much of Season 2 cavorting naked, but Wesley is a happily married woman.
And no matter how sexy Rutina Wesley’s scenes get, her grandmother still gathers a group of people to watch each episode!
Here are some other things you might not know about Rutina Wesley: she’s originally from Las Vegas. She starred in the step-dance flick How She Move. She’s also a classically trained dancer who attended Juillard.
In Jeaneen Lund’s photos, Wesley wears a black-and-white geometric patterned summer dress from Switch Boutique; one the next page she rocks a white peasant top over white shorts. Hey, Bust women do care about fashion. It’s just not all we care about.
