A breast pump? The TSA forced a Hawaiian mom, Amy Strand, to prove her pump was real by filling bottles in front of the agent and other airport visitors. She says she was flagged by TSA (Transportation Security Administration) on Wednesday at the Kauai airport because the bottles that go with her electric pump were empty. In order to fly, she was made to fill the bottles in the bathroom, in front of a sink! She was traveling alone with her 9-month-old daughter Wednesday. How did she manage to pump and care for her baby? Unbelievable! Empty baby bottles create a safety risk?

TSA-DHSIf this isn’t bad enough, the TSA just recently changed the rules to allow bottles of breastmilk on the plane without being tested! Breast pumps still may be “screened.” This division of Homeland Security needs a big overhaul. The rules and regulations are often just ridiculous. The mom said, “I asked him if there was a private place I could pump, and he said no, you can go in the women’s bathroom. I had to stand in front of the mirrors and the sinks and pump my breast in front of every tourist that walked into that bathroom. I was embarrassed and humiliated and then angry that I was treated this way.”

The TSA made a rare apology in this case, “We accept responsibility for the apparent misunderstanding and any inconvenience or embarrassment this incident may have caused her.” They said the agent made a mistake. How many more incidents have to occur before the American public demands a change?
