UFC 129 Randy Couture vs. Lyoto Machida: Shocking and Exciting Future for “Captain America”?

UFC 129 will prove to be an extraordinary night as Randy Couture retires after fighting Lyoto Machida. The April 30th fight night will pack in about 55,000 UFC fans. UFC 129 is expected to be the largest Mixed Martial Arts fight that has ever been promoted in the United States “in terms of attendance and gate.”

UFC 129 is such a big deal, because of the much anticipated retirement of Randy Couture. The MMA fighter retired back in 2006, due to “trying events in his life.” But he knows this retirement “will stick.”

Why is Couture retiring? He has decided that it is time to pursue his acting career, while his body is still healthy. He mentioned that he loves to hunt and ride his bike. He doesnÂ’t want a doctor telling him in the future that he can no longer fight due to an injury.

A physical injury would keep from doing the hobbies that he loves to do as well. Good idea, Randy!

During a Tuesday night teleconference, Randy Couture stated, “I kind of want to go out on my own terms and decide when enough is enough, and I think that time has come.”

After Couture’s retirement, he will work on an action film called, “Hijacked.” Then the UFC star will begin working on the sequel to the 2010 movie “The Expendables.”

But is this the last that the UFC will see of Randy Couture? Probably not. He can become a voice for mixed martial arts either within the contexts of UFC or within the media. Either way Couture is a cultural icon for MMA. He is one of the first personalities that made a name for mixed martial arts. He performed in a whopping 16 ultimate fighting title shots. Incredible!

Will he beat Lyoto Machida? This remains to be seen. But expect a standing ovation whether Couture wins or loses his fight as he makes his way into retirement. Hopefully, UFC 129 will be the ultimate fight night of the last several decades.
