A compelling fight takes place in the UFC this weekend between Brandon Vera and Shogun Rua. Both fighters will be vying for a chance to challenge the winner of the Dan Henderson and Jon Jones fight for the light heavyweight championship of the world.
Also on the card is another light heavyweight fight between Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader. These two will also be vying for a spot to challenge for the light heavyweight belt, which should add to the intensity of the fight.
Shogun Rua is coming into Saturday’s main event off an impressive win over Forrest Griffin. He has some of the best striking in the light heavyweight division, which can be seen with his destruction over Chuck Liddell and Lyoto Machida. He will be looking to prove that he is the better striker in his match up with Brandon Vera, and also prove that he is ready for a second crack of Jon Jones, if Jones gets past the always dangerous Dan Henderson.
Brandon Vera is coming into this UFC fight with a win over Eliot Marshall. This will be his biggest fight to date, and he needs to be firing on all cylinders if he wants to score the upset. Vera had a meteoric rise to the top of the heavyweight division, but was detracted when losing to Tim Sylvia and Fabricio Werdum. He then transitioned to the light heavyweight division, but the results were mixed. Maybe this will be the fight that he can put it all together.
It will be interesting to see which fighter can implement their game to the most success and which fighter’s stand up is the best between the two. It should be entertaining from start to finish, and should be a real treat for mixed martial arts fans around the world.
