~Under the Surface~

The skipping stones have
pieces of the whole truth
on each smooth surface
but deception is lurking
there in the waters
lies surround each little rock

Tossed to their fate with
the flick of a careless man
who intentionally picked them
they drown and sink
to the bottom of the lake
with an inconsequential splash

The water does not reveal its ploy
it looks innocent and serene

(The unsuspecting woman
splashes and plays close by
unaware of what was lost
pushed away by the hands
she thought she knew so well)

Whetstone:  I am curious what you think of the last stanza in italics and parentheses.  I felt it worked, but I’d like feedback.  Thanks!
