Victoria Beckham has decided to make size-4 the norm. Yep, Beckham’s clothing line’s designs are based off of her own petite figure. Go figure!
Somehow, Beckham has it in her head that size-4 is the size of the average woman. What average of what women is Beckham talking about? Is she averaging herself, Cheryl Cole, and Kate Middleton to come up with that size?
Victoria is skinny. Some even get on her case for being too thin, so clearly she has no concept of what an “average” woman looks like. Still, for Beckham, that doesn’t matter. She continues to design all of her clothing pieces around her own figure.
Look, it is a good thing that she likes to wear her own designs, but to completely ignore 90% of the woman by claiming that one’s own size is the “average” when it clearly isn’t, may be a bad business decision.
Vicortia Beckham has the right idea. She doesn’t try to design clothes around supermodel bodies:
We always joke that we have this fabulously gorgeous 17-year-old model who is six-foot-whatever and then I say ‘OK, I’m going to put it on. I stand for the general public here.’ It’s how I work.
The 37-year-old actually pins material to her own body (a challenge when she was pregnant with Harper Seven). Yes, her own size-4 body.
Now some are saying that the average size of a woman in the UK is size-16. Clearly, Victoria Beckham is not designing her pricy clothing for the “average” woman. Just think of the money that will need to be spent just to lose the weight to fit into one Beckham’s dresses.
The thing is, if Victoria Beckham started to champion “average” women, she might actually sell more clothes. Just a thought! Unfortunately, the fashion industry is geared to only a small percentage of the population. Unfortunately, Beckham’s average is actually exceptional.
