Who here watches Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on TV? I do — and so do approximately one BILLION other people worldwide. That’s right – billion. It’s fun enough to watch the parade on television, but seeing it live, in New York City, is even better. I haven’t been able to even consider standing somewhere along the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade route for years, since I moved across the country eight years ago. But this video sneak peek of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade got me excited about it all over again.

Imagine getting up early and bundling up against the cold, to get a great spot along the parade route. New York City really comes alive, more than in its usual hustle-and-bustle sense, as the crowd is united in its excitement and anticipation. The famous Macy’s Thanskgiving Day Parade balloons and floats are easy to spot from the sidelines, and every year there are at least a couple new balloons and floats. Last year, Kung Fu Panda was among the new giant balloons in the parade, and as the video explained, this year a new float features those hamster toys the Zhu Zhu Pets, in a fantasy planet type of scenario.

If you are traveling to New York City for Thanksgiving, or even nearby (like New Jersey or central New York), then consider taking your family to the Thanksgiving Day Parade in the city. It’s fun to watch on TV, but really memorable live from the streets. It would make a happy family Thanksgiving even better.
