Patients are treated outside Sinabang hospital following a powerful earthquake in Sumatra, Simeulue, Aceh

The Indonesian island of Sumatra was hit by a massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake yesterday, April 06, 2010 at 5:15 am Indonesia time. Although blackouts followed, no major damage or deaths have been reported. Indonesian Government and Thailand issued tsunami warnings but later lifted them.

In 2004, Sumatra was hit with a 9.3 magnitude earthquake and since then geologist have warned that Sumatra will be hit again by an even larger quake, so I guess that makes this 7.8 magnitude quake, a drop in the bucket and no the BIG one they were expecting.

Maybe it’s because I am reporting news now because I swear the number of earthquakes have increased. It seems at least one every two weeks and it’s not just earthquakes, it’s natural disasters of all types. Even the weather here in California has been very strange lately. I don’t think mother earth has been very happy lately.
