We Should Not Be Confused: (A Poem)

We Should Not Be Confused:  (A Poem)

Concern should

Not be confused

With understanding

One can have concern

Without understanding,

Just as

One can have understanding

Without actually

Being concerned

Truth should not be confused

With the perception

Or especially

The presentation of truth

One can know the truth

And present a false message

As being the truth

While intentionally

Making false or inaccurate statements

Passion should not be confused

With misguided emotions

Often lack of knowledge

Will cloud one’s judgment

Driven by what we are told

To think and how to act

What is submitted as passion

Can be a poor inner translation

Of nothing more than a reaction

To an illusion that is before you

Facts or the actual truth

Should not be confused

With a created agenda

And unless the truth is

A goal of that agenda

There is a quest

To remove or to hide

The truth

And the agenda is baseless

Following others

Should not be confused

With loyalty

Nor should loyalty

Be based upon

The following of others

Following others is easy

But if those you follow are lost

You will be lost as well

Security should not be confused

With the ability to feel safe

Never should we be forced to conform

To societal rules or regulations

In order to be considered worthy of

That security or safety

We should not be told

What steps we are to take in life

We should already know that

Living our lives by our own terms

Should not be confused

With adhering to societal protocol

That represents a controlled environment

Orchestrated by only a few

Who place themselves above others

Independent thought and actions

Should not be merely set aside

As we invite that confusion
