Wealthy People: Voted for Obama and Arrested at Occupy Wall Street

Wealthy people were more likely to vote for President Obama in 2008; they are more likely to get arrested at Occupy Wall Street, according to an interesting piece by Walter Williams, a professor of economics at George Mason University. President Obama has actively promoted class warfare by falling lock-step with the Occupy Movement’s mantra denouncing the so-called 1%. Despite his call for taxing those who make over 250K, the rich were more likely to vote for him. Additionally, many calling for redistribution of wealth and an end to capitalism in the Occupy movement also have more money than the average citizen, well at least those who have been arrested during Occupy-related shenanigans.

Williams points out that police collected information from 1,000 arrested Occupiers (total Occupiers arrested as of the time of this article is 7,125, but who is counting?). According to the data gathered, “The median value of the homes of the arrestees was $305,000 — a far higher number than the $185,400 median value of owner-occupied homes of the rest of us.” Perhaps those houses really belong to their parents and the Occupy protesters just do not understand the value of a dollar. After all, they have caused millions of dollars in damage and have actively destroyed other people’s property.

Williams continued to say that “Ninety-five of the arrestees lived in homes valued at more than $500,000. Those who rented paid a median rent of $1,850 per month. Of the 984 protesters arrested, at least 797 are white. One Occupy Wall Street protester arrested — presumably, if you listen to the mainstream media, penniless and from a blue-collar family — lived in an $850,000 home in the nation’s capital.” It is confounding that so many Occupiers have clearly benefited from the system they want to destroy.

Rich Obama Voters

According to Williams, “It turns out that seven of the 10 wealthiest counties in the Washington area voted overwhelmingly for Obama in 2008.” Another article in the Wall Street Journal confirms Williams point, by stating that President Obama “won 52% of the votes of those earning $200,000 or more.” The Daily Beast noted that in Greenwich, Connecticut, “the most golden of the region’s gilded suburbs, the childhood home of George H.W. Bush, went for Obama by a 54-46 margin—the first time Greenwich went Democratic since 1964.” These articles speculated on the various reasons why the wealthy would vote for Obama. The real question is, will they vote for him again?

However, the president has clearly been successful in his life. He has stated, “…we believe that in America, your success shouldn’t be determined by the circumstances of your birth.”

So many wealthy people have benefited from the opportunities offered in America, yet want to “fundamentally transform” her. Why?
