It was just reported yesterday that Webster star and former Detroit Lions defense Alex Karras was given just days to live, and now a new report announces his passing. Karras died at his L.A. home Wednesday morning, surrounded by his family.
According to a report from Hollywood Life, the former NFL player died of kidney failure brought on by a severe case of Alzheimer’s. He was 77 years old.
In addition to Karras’ role playing opposite Emmanuel Lewis as his adoptive father George Papadapolis on Webster, he also appeared in films like Blazing Saddles, Victor Victoria and Porky’s. He pursued an acting career after retiring from football in 1970.
Karras’ wife Susan Clark starred as his wife in Webster, too, and was instrumental in helping Alex join an NFL suit over serious brain injuries in many of their players. It is believed that Karras developed Alzheimer’s as a result of his football injuries.
The world has lost a great actor and football player, but more importantly Alex Karras’ family has lost a great man. Many fans in the entertainment and sports worlds are praying for his grieving family today.
