Weird Al wants to do a parody of Lady Gaga for his upcoming album. He is reportedly three songs away from finishing up his latest album. Weird Al has set his sights on the biggest pop star today to parody: Lady Gaga.
According to Reuters, Weird Al Yankovic already has nine songs but wants three more to make his upcoming album a full dozen. Weird Al said, “I need to write three parodies,†Yankovic than said that Lady Gaga was “a great candidate†but that he was going to keep quiet about whom he had focused in on.
When asked specifically about a Lady Gaga parody, Weird Al said, “I don’t want to give anything away. All you’ve got to do is look at the top of the Billboard charts; that’s what I’m looking at, too.â€
SacBee.com reports that the title for Weird Al’s next album will be “ridiculous.”As of yet there has been no word from Lady Gaga’s representative. Surely she is honored because a parody from Weird Al is a privilege that only a handful of singers have been able to experience. Even though some may cringe at the idea, it would still keep them relevant.
Billboard.com stated that Weird Al went on to complain that he was no longer the only one with exclusive creative access to the music of artist. He said, “Because of portals like that [the internet], I will never again be the only or the first person to parody any given pop song. By the time I’m in the studio recording my parody, 10,000 parodies of that song are on YouTube. It makes it harder to be fresh and unique. It’s frustrating, but it does help me step up my game. If I can’t be the first and only, I can be the best.â€
This is a grip all too common among the internet community of artist and writers. Those who did not produce the original content but somehow believe that they own exclusive rights to the content and that only they should be allowed to write or parody it; as if no other soul is allowed to come across the same public information and report or make fun of it. A truly ridiculous notion that Weird Al has now realized. The internet is a source of information that makes all artists, writers and performers set up their game. It allows everyone to try and be the best.
