Oh man, this was delicious!
One 1 lb sirloin steak, trimmed
1/4 cup canola or vegetable oil, plus extra for steak
2 t ground cumin, divided
salt and pepper
3 T apple cider or white wine vinegar
1 t honey
1/2 t dry mustard
ground white pepper
4 cups thinly sliced romaine lettuce
1 carrot, peeled thinly
1 medium cucumber, seeded and sliced
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, shredded
1-2 jalapeños, seeded and sliced
Preheat grill over medium high heat. Rub the steak with a little oil; sprinkle with 1 t cumin and season to taste with salt and pepper. Let stand at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, honey, mustard and the remaining 1 t cumin. Whisk in the 1/4 cup of oil and season with salt and white pepper. Set aside.
Grill steak til desired doneness. Let rest for 5 minutes. Slice thinly.
In a large bowl, toss the lettuce, carrot, cucumber, basil and jalapeño. Add the dressing and toss well. Top salad with steak slices.
