1 bag split peas, rinsed
water or chicken broth
salt and pepper to taste
1 bay leaf
ham base (optional)
diced leftover ham
Add ingredients to a large stockpot on high heat. Cover with water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer 2 hours. Remove bay leaf.
Serve with buttered bread, if desired.
